Baroness Lorely Burt has a distinguished parliamentary career, spanning 10 years as an MP from 2005-2015, becoming a life peer in 2015.

During her tenure as an MP she was the first woman to chair the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Party, and spoke on matters as diverse as equalities, small business and Northern Ireland. In the 2010-15 coalition she was Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Chief Secretary for the Treasury, a Government Whip and the Government's Champion for Women in Enterprise

On entering the Lords she was the Shadow Secretary of State for Business and today is Shadow Secretary for Equalities.

Before entering Parliament she was an entrepreneur with several small businesses, worked in Personal and Training management for several international businesses and has also served as an Assistant Governor in HM Prison Service.
